Ethereum (ETH) Funding Rate
Ethereum is the second anchor market for perps, and its funding reflects both directional leverage and on-chain carry strategies.

Statistics use one value per venue (the median if a venue lists several contracts), skip closed markets, GMX (pool-skew funding with a separate borrowing fee) and LeverUp markets routed to Hyperliquid (they would double count Hyperliquid). Every row is still shown in the table below.
Ethereum (ETH) funding rates by venue
Every ETH market in the latest snapshot, highest 8h rate first. Rate per interval is the amount paid at each settlement; 1h, 8h and APR are normalised so venues with different intervals compare directly. See the Hyperliquid funding rates page for core and HIP-3 markets.

What does Ethereum (ETH) funding cost?
Worked example for a $10,000 long held for 1 day and 7 days, using each rate from the table above as if it stayed constant (it will not). Funding is charged on notional, not margin.
| Scenario | 8h rate | 1 day | 7 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median (9 venues) | -0.0002% | $0.06 received | $0.43 received |
| Highest: edgeX | 0.0100% | $3.00 paid | $21.00 paid |
| Lowest: Bybit | -0.0106% | $3.19 received | $22.34 received |
Cross-venue spread idea
In principle a trader could go long where funding is lowest (Bybit) and short where it is highest (edgeX) and collect the difference. At the current rates, $10,000 on each side would be a net $6.19 received per day before costs.
Caveat: this is an illustration, not advice. Real results depend on trading fees, price basis between the two contracts, different settlement intervals (a rate can change before you are paid), margin on both venues, liquidation risk on either leg, and funding changing sign. The funding rate arbitrage scanner ranks these gaps across every asset and explains the risks.

Rolling hourly summary of the cross-venue 8h rate (median across venues, plus the lowest and highest venue reading in each sample). History is still building (3 hourly samples since 2026-10-20 07:00 UTC), so the 24h and 7d rows cover less than their full window.

What drives Ethereum (ETH) funding rates
Ether perpetuals are the second most liquid contracts in crypto, and ETH funding usually tracks Bitcoin's direction while being a little more volatile. ETH is the preferred vehicle when traders want more beta than Bitcoin, so leveraged longs tend to concentrate there in risk-on phases, pushing funding higher than BTC; the reverse happens when traders rotate out of altcoins and into Bitcoin.
ETH has a feature Bitcoin lacks: native staking yield. Anyone who holds staked ETH or a liquid staking token earns that yield while holding the asset, which makes the carry trade of holding the token and shorting the perpetual more attractive than the same trade on a non-yielding asset. As a result, positive ETH funding attracts a steady supply of short-perp hedgers, which tends to dampen extreme readings.
Because Ethereum is also the base asset of DeFi, ETH is used as collateral for borrowing. Traders who borrow stablecoins against ETH to buy more ETH create leveraged long exposure outside exchanges, and when DeFi lending rates rise the cost of that leverage competes with perp funding. Activity around network upgrades, ETF-related news and the ETH/BTC ratio often shows up as shifts in funding before it shows up in price.
Check the interval column before comparing venues. An hourly rate on Hyperliquid and an 8-hour rate on a centralised exchange are not directly comparable until normalised; the 8h and APR columns do that for you.
Where ETH is listed
ETH perps are available on all major centralised exchanges and on every on-chain venue in our dataset. GMX offers ETH through a pool-based design with separate borrowing fees, so its figures are shown but left out of the summary statistics.
What to watch
What to watch: when ETH funding runs above Bitcoin's for several days, speculative leverage is rotating into Ether; when it falls below, traders are favouring Bitcoin. Divergence between hourly and 8-hour venues during fast moves is normal and mostly reflects averaging windows.
Ethereum (ETH) funding rate FAQ
What is the current ETH funding rate?
At 2026-10-20T09:30:59.591Z UTC the median ETH funding rate across 9 venues is -0.0002% per 8 hours (-0.2261% APR), ranging from -0.0106% on Bybit to 0.0100% on edgeX. Positive means longs pay shorts.
Why does ETH funding differ from BTC funding?
ETH attracts more speculative leverage in risk-on markets and has staking yield that supports carry trades, so its funding can run hotter or cooler than Bitcoin's depending on the cycle.
Does staking yield affect ETH perpetual funding?
Indirectly. Staking yield makes holding spot or staked ETH against a short perpetual more attractive, which supplies short-side demand when funding is positive.
How do I compare ETH funding across venues?
Use the 8h or APR columns, which convert hourly, 4-hour and 8-hour settlement into the same unit, and keep in mind each venue's formula and cap differ.
