Funding Rate Calculator
At a funding rate of 0.01% per 8h, a $50,000 perp position pays $5.00 every 8 hours: $15.00 per day, $105.00 per 7 days and $450.00 per 30 days (10.95% APR). The payer is the long when the rate is positive and the short when it is negative; the amount is charged on notional, so leverage does not change it.
Estimate funding payments from position size, rate, and hold time. Pool modes cover combined or split funding + holding fees.

Funding cost formula
Funding paid = position notional × funding rate per interval × number of payments. For a rate quoted per 8h, payments in a hold = hold hours ÷ 8; for an hourly rate, notional × hourly rate × hours. To turn another interval into hourly, divide the rate per interval by the interval hours (a 4h rate of 0.0020% is 0.0005% per hour). APR (simple) = hourly rate × 24 × 365.
Worked example: $50,000 position at 0.01% per 8h
- Per payment: $50,000 × 0.01% = $5.00.
- Per day (3 payments): 3 × $5.00 = $15.00.
- Per 7 days (21 payments): $105.00. Per 30 days (90 payments): $450.00.
- Annualised: 0.01% × 3 × 365 = 10.95% of notional, or $5,475.00 a year if the rate never changed.
The 0.01% per 8h figure is an example input, not a market quote. A long pays it when the rate is positive; the short on the other side receives it.

Long side, rate held constant (it will not be). Rows starting with Example use stated rates; the live row uses the cross-venue median BTC rate from the latest snapshot. For other coins, open a coin page such as BTC, ETH or HYPE, or the heatmap, and enter the venue's rate above.
Worked examples (server-computed)
- $10,000 long at 0.01%/8h for 24h scheduled: 3 payments, total $3.00 ($3.00/day, ~10.95% APR).
- 50× on $200 margin (same rate): 1.50% of margin per day.
- Continuous 0.00125%/h × 24h on $10k: $3.00.
- Short receives when rate positive (8h hold): payer long, receiver short.
- Pool long 0.002%/h vs short 0.0005%/h, $10k, 10h: long $2.00 (short would be $0.50).
- Funding + holding: $10k long, 0.001%/h funding + 0.001%/h long holding, 10h → funding $1.00 + holding $1.00 = $2.00.
- Same market short (0.0005%/h short holding): funding -$1.00 + holding $0.50 = -$0.50 net.
Assumptions behind these numbers
- The rate you enter (or pick from a live market) is held constant for the whole hold time; real funding changes every interval and can flip sign.
- Funding is charged on notional, not margin. Margin and leverage only change the result as a percentage of margin.
- Scheduled mode counts whole settlement payments in the hold time; continuous mode accrues the hourly rate for every hour.
- APR is simple (no compounding): the hourly rate × 24 × 365, which equals the 8h rate × 3 × 365.
- Trading fees, slippage, price basis and liquidation risk are not included.
Live market rates come from the snapshot described on the methodology page, including how intervals are normalized and when carried-forward data is shown. To see where rates differ most, use the funding rate arbitrage scanner; for Hyperliquid's hourly schedule see Hyperliquid funding rates.
Funding rate calculator FAQ
How much funding will I pay on a $50,000 perp position?
At a funding rate of 0.01% per 8h, a $50,000 perp position pays $5.00 every 8 hours: $15.00 per day, $105.00 per 7 days and $450.00 per 30 days (10.95% APR). The payer is the long when the rate is positive and the short when it is negative; the amount is charged on notional, so leverage does not change it. Replace 0.01% with the live rate of your market: funding paid = $50,000 × rate per interval × number of payments. The table on this page shows 1, 7 and 30 days at several rates, including the live BTC median of 0.0096% per 8h as of 22:10 UTC on 2026-10-29.
How is funding cost calculated?
Notional × rate per interval × number of payments for scheduled funding, or notional × hourly rate × hours for continuous accrual. For a 1h or 4h venue, rate per interval = hourly rate × interval hours.
Does leverage change funding cost?
Funding is charged on notional, not margin; as a percent of margin it scales with leverage. $50,000 of notional pays the same funding at 5x or 50x, but that is 10x a larger share of a $1,000 margin than of a $10,000 margin.
Do I pay or receive funding on a short?
When the rate is positive longs pay shorts, so a short receives the amounts in the table; when it is negative the sides swap. Rows marked received in the table are what the position would earn.
Which rate should I use?
Use the venue's current rate for your market (the live market selector fills it in) and its interval. Rates change every interval and can flip sign, so the result is an estimate, not a forecast; trading fees, slippage and basis are not included.
